Pacweather Watch: Floyd Throws In For Suge Knight's Bail, Manny Gets Cup Checked

Ahead of their May 2 fight, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are dominating headlines

As Las Vegas preps for the "Fight of the Century" between boxing champs, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, the media is keeping busy, keeping tabs on the two fighters.

First up, Money Team captain, Mayweather, will reportedly shell out $10 million for Suge Knight's bail. Recall that Knight has been holed up in L.A. County Jail stemming from hit-and-run charges filed in January and struggling with his court appearances. According to New York Daily News, Knight pled not guilty to murder at his follow-up arraignment on Thursday (April 30) and received a July 7 trial date.

Now, his buddy, Mayweather, is expected to bail him out after the May 2 bout. "My understanding is that Suge is going to be bailed out this coming week,” Knight's lawyer Matthew Fletcher told NYDN. “We think Mr. Mayweather is going to win the championship and then come champion the day again. They're good friends, and there's no reason he shouldn't. And we believe that will happen.”

Meanwhile, Mayweather's team called on state officials to check Pacquiao's (wait for it) cup. Apparently, Floydy was concerned that Pacman's cup would cover more than just his groin area and protect him from (Mayweather's fav!) body blows. CBS Sports reports that the Nevada State Athletic Commission proceeded to check Pacman's cup. Here's the photo to prove it:

Mayweather and Pacquiao will bump gloves and rock pre-approved cups at Las Vegas' MGM Grand this Saturday.

Breakdancing Proposed As Potential Sport For 2024 Olympics

According to CNN, a proposal has been made to add breakdancing as a sport during the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Breakdancing is one of four events suggested for inclusion, along with surfing, climbing and skateboarding.

"We are pleased to see that Paris 2024's proposal for new sports to the Olympic programme is very much in line with the reforms of Olympic Agenda 2020, which is striving to make the Olympic programme gender-balanced, more youth-focused and more urban," read a statement from the International Olympic Committee. Other mediums such as Squash, snooker and chess put their proposals in, but were not selected.

Breakdancing, which is one of the four elements of hip-hop, was introduced as a sport during the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. Thanks to organizations such as Red Bull's BC One, the legacy of breakdancing lives on through workshops and competitions throughout the world. Last year's Red Bull BC One Breakdancing World Championship was held in Switzerland.

“Obviously, if people know the history of the hip-hop culture, then they'll know that we are the original hip-hop," “B-Boy Ronnie” Abaldonado told VIBE of breakdancing's influence during Red Bull BC One Camp in Houston. "...We're here not to just teach people how to dance, but also to educate them on hip-hop and breaking.”

Barack Obama Tweets About Duke Basketball Star Zion Williamson's Injury

On Wednesday evening (Feb. 20), former President Barack Obama took time out of his day-to-day activities to sit court side at a Duke vs. North Carolina basketball game. While reports of a $2,900 ticket to attend the game circulated, it was main attraction Zion Williamson that generated everyone’s attention, including No. 44.

During regulation, Williamson tore through his Nike sneaker and injured his knee, immediately taking him out of the game. The Blue Devils succumbed to the Tar Heels 72-88. Since Williamson’s injury, Obama tweeted his well wishes for one of college basketball’s most talked about athletes.

Zion Williamson seems like an outstanding young man as well as an outstanding basketball player. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Since his time at Duke, the power forward has broken the university’s basketball records, namely the single-game points data held by a freshman. Williamson has also garnered attention from the NBA’s leading athletes, specifically LeBron James. The Los Angeles Laker praised Williamson for his athleticism and command of the game.

“With his athleticism, with what we all see, to jump well beyond the 10-foot rim is incredible,” James said to USA Today. “I think what’s also incredible is at his size his speed, his agility, his quickness. And then to add on to that, I think he’s just a great kid.”
