Donald Gets Trumped, Univision Cancels Miss USA Pageant Over Mexico Slander
The biggest Spanish-language broadcaster in America isn’t about to take hate speech lying down. Univision has decided to cancel its telecast of the Miss USA pageant, an event co-owned by Donald Trump, to protest the billionaire’s offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants.

“At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” said Univision in a statement released Wednesday morning. “We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12 or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.”
Trump has since responded to Univision over Twitter, claiming that “the Mexican gov doesn’t want me talking about terrible border situation & horrible trade deals. Forcing Univision to get me to stop- no way!”

The good people over at Univision are not the only ones who reacted strongly to Trump’s bombastic presidential campaign announcement. Just last weekend, Maná lead singer Fher Olver denounced Trump’s words and likened him to Hitler in the process.
On Tuesday night (June 23) award-winning reggaeton artist and Colombian native, J Balvin, announced he would not perform at the Miss USA pageant because of Trump’s involvement with the organization. “No, we’re not doing it,” he said to Miami-based, Spanish-language radio host Enrique Santos. “We have to make sure our people are respected; if you let people make these comments against Latinos or any group it’s like regressing, like going back, so no.”
Balvin’s team reiterated his sentiments, telling NBC News “he can no longer in good conscience agree to take part in an event that is overseen by, and creates a profit for Donald Trump, while Mr. Trump attacks the hard-working Latino immigrant community with hateful political rhetoric.”
