NBA Finals 2015: Warriors Beat Cavaliers To Bag Title In Game 6

The Golden State Warriors ended a 40-year title drought on Tuesday night (June 16) when they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers on their home turf at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The Dubs bagged the Larry O’Brien trophy during Game 6 after a 105-97 victory over the Cavs.

After a storm of Vine-able three-pointers, beastly blocks (shout out to Timofey Mosgov) and many a fouls not called by the referees, the Finals seesawed between the Warriors (who won Games 1, 4, 5 and 6) and the Cavs (who took the W in Games 2 and 3). At the final buzzer, the Golden State squad began their celebration at center court.

Still, Cleveland—or rather LeBron James—put up a good fight till the bitter end. J.R. Smith had his moments, alongside Mosgov and fan favorite, Matthew Dellavedova. With Kevin Love sidelined for an injury, the team was dealt a huge blow early when Kyrie Irving suffered a knee injury during Game 1 of the Finals.

Looking at the Warriors roster, though, the team put in work as whole thanks to contributions from Harrison Barnes, Shaun Livingston, Leandro Barbosa, Festus Ezeli, Klay Thompson, and league MVP, Steph Curry. The Finals MVP title, however, went to a player who didn’t even become a regular starter till Game 4 of the series: Andre Iguodala. With the most consistent record in the series, Iggy averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and four assists over 36.8 minutes per game. Like last year’s finals MVP, San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard, Iguodala’s defense on James helped him and his team seal the victory.

“This has been a long ride,” Iguodala said, as if echoing the sentiments of his coach, Steve Kerr, and the team. “It’s been a great season.”
