N.W.A. Reunion Show Will Feature Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar And Schoolboy Q At 2015 BET Experience

Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella will hold an N.W.A. reunion performance at this year’s BET Experience concert at Staples Center (June 27). The West Coast pioneers’ coming together will commemorate the upcoming release of their highly-anticipated biopic, Straight Outta Compton on Aug 14.

Discussing the momentous hip-hop event, Ice Cube recently chopped it up with Rolling Stone about what fans can expect and whether or not they should keep their eyes peeled for Dr. Dre.

“You never know. It’s like, I hope he blesses us with his presence,” he said. “But if not, I’ve been rockin’ for a long time without anybody. So whoever shows up, I’m still gonna rock. Whoever don’t show up, we still gonna rock.”

Noting that he hasn’t shared a stage with Yella since 1989 and Ren since 2000, Cube also talked about the group’s aggressive catalog. Citing anthems like “F–k Tha Police,” the rapper/actor asserted that the themes from the group’s 1988 debut are still relevant, making them that much easier to relay on stage.

“Same shit’s going on. It doesn’t change with the calendar,” he said. “So it’s easy. The rage is still there because the problems are still there. I’ve always said what I need to say and that ain’t never gonna change. My personal success is irrelevant to the rhymes I write and what I talk about, how I feel about society.”

As for other special appearances, fans can expect a full-on West Coast takeover.

“It’s just gonna be a great night,” Cube said. “We’re gonna be there with Snoop, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q. It’s just gonna be one of those ‘I wish I were there in L.A. nights.’ And we’re gonna rock that shit, no problem.”
