YouTube Helps Artists Track Their Fanbase With New Initiative

Many of today's artists can credit their discovery to YouTube (see: Justin Bieber, Soulja Boy and Rebecca Black). Whether getting noticed by producers or appearing on Billboard’s Hot 100 or SiriusXM’s Youtube 15, views on the Google-based website matter. Now, YouTube is taking on the role of record label and making it easier for musicians on the come-up to reach worldwide audiences.

YouTube for Artists, an initiative released before its awards show in March, just added a new feature that allows users to find out where their fans are. Developers collected data as far back as September 2014 from YouTube video views and encompassed it in the tool “Music Insights.” The new tool analyzes what, where, and when the video is most popular.

All you have to do is search an artist's name and a list of analytics appears. For example, most of Beyonce’s fanbase on YouTube is American. But according to the site, the largest Beyhive exists in London, England. Also, the idea of recreating “7/11” with the squad has most likely crossed approximately 300 million people’s minds.

The website, which boasts more than a billion users, says, “YouTube Music Insights tool lets you find out where your fans are so you can plan your next tour around.”

YouTube for Artists also offers other features such as video recommendations after viewers search similar content, viewer interaction with Content ID and social media, tips to gain larger and loyal audiences, inspiring Creator Hub content, advertisements for events and concerts within videos, and fan-funding. In addition, the company provides studios equipped with everything needed to make eye-catching videos. -- Kathryn E. Jones

R. Kelly's Lawyers Request To Receive Copies Of Alleged Sex Tapes During Trial

R. Kelly's criminal sexual abuse trial is currently underway in Chicago. The embattled musician's lawyers are requesting to see the sex tapes their client is believed to have participated in with underage girls.

"Kelly's attorney, Steven Greenberg, tells TMZ ... prosecutors will begin handing over discovery materials during a court hearing Friday in Chicago," the gossip site writes. "He says there's no guarantee what they'll get right off the bat -- could be police reports, case material from Kelly's 2008 trial but, obviously, the items they're most anxious to see are the 2 tapes Michael Avenatti turned over to Cook County prosecutors."

According to TMZ, the two new alleged tapes will not be available for public viewing, and the possibility of Kelly's team getting copies of the tape is also still up in the air, as the judge is still making a decision.

In early-February, lawyer Michael Avenatti revealed that he received a 45-minute sex tape featuring a man believed to be R. Kelly and a 14-year-old girl. The girl in the video reportedly calls him "Daddy" several times, and they both refer to her genitalia as "14-year-old p***y." At the video's conclusion, the man in the video reportedly urinates on the girl.

T.I. Scolds Man For Wearing Gucci Amid Blackface Scandal

Gucci brand might be on a mission to right its wrongs, but T.I. isn't willing to forgive and forget so easily. A month after the luxury fashion brand received backlash for selling a sweater that resembled blackface, T.I. was seen on camera scolding a man for rocking the brand's latest steez.

"Stand up for yourself, brother," T.I. told the man. "It's what's in you, not what's on you. That sh*t ain't shit until we put it on! We make that sh*t fly! Look at me, n***a. I'm fly as a motherf**ker and I ain't got that sh*t on. I look better than you, as a matter of fact." The video was reportedly filmed outside of a bistro earlier this week.

The man hit back, using the argument that T.I. previously owned Gucci items. "They showed me their disrespect, so guess what? I can't do it no more," he said defending himself.

As previously reported, T.I. announced his plans to boycott Gucci in Feb. 2019, after news of the blackface sweater began to circulate. "We ain't going for this 'oops my bad I didn't mean to be racist and disrespectful towards your people' shit!!! Y'all knew wtf y'all was doing and WE AINT GOING FOR IT," he said in a lengthy Instagram post at the time.

In addition to publicly apologizing, Gucci has since launched a new initiative. With help from Dapper Dan and other fashion leaders, the brand announced its Changemakers Council implement and invest in programs that promote diversity and support communities of color. The council will include DeRay McKesson, will.i.am, and writer and activist Brittany Packnett. A Changemakers Fund will donate $5 million to underrepresented communities around the U.S.

“It is imperative that we have a seat at the table to say how we should be represented and reimagined," Dapper Dan said in a statement announcing the initiative. "Through our work together, Gucci is in a position to lead the overall industry toward becoming a better more inclusive one."

We'll see if that convinces T.I. to have a change of heart. In the meantime, check out the video of him scolding a man below.

Rich The Kid Dubs Himself The Hottest Rapper In New York

Rich The Kid's newest album The World Is Yours 2 dropped today (Mar. 22), and before his highly-anticipated LP dropped, he took to Instagram to make some pretty bold statements.

"I am the hottest rapper out of New York," he wrote in a now-deleted IG story post. "Name a ny rapper who get more a show than me? Name a new york artist got more Platinums."

In a repost of his story to his page, he captioned his sentiment with "FACT... name a New York male artist that bigger than rich...ON GOD ... no rapper in nyc other than @iamcardib get paid more a show & in this business than RICH #funfact."

This year, we've seen several rappers making spirited and confident declarations about their spots in the game. Soulja Boy claimed he was the hottest rapper in the game back in January, and Tory Lanez dubbed himself the "best rapper alive right now." Just yesterday (Mar. 21), Kodak Black told us to put some respect on his name, urging us to place him at the same level as legends like Tupac, Biggie and Nas.
