Is Alexander Wang Leaving Balenciaga?

After three years as the creative director of Balenciaga, fashion designer Alexander Wang is said to be parting ways with the luxury label, as his contract will not be renewed.

Wang was brought onto their team in December 2012, replacing  Nicolas Ghesquière, who left the company on a high–a successful 15-year tenure that lead to him ultimately moving on to French fashion house Louis Vuitton. According to WWD, sources are saying that Wang’s Spring 2016 show at Paris Fashion Week, which is scheduled for Sept. 29 to Oct. 7, will be his last as the brand’s creative director. While there haven’t officially been statements released behind the reasoning of the split, rumors are pointing to the brand wanting someone that is a “lesser known hidden talent.” Wang’s self-titled clothing brand, Alexander Wang, itself is widely known and very profitable. However, since Wang came aboard, Balenciaga has had double digit growth.
