The Time Capone-N-Noreaga Almost Shot A VIBE Editor (By Accident)


“We were emulating N.W.A,” N.O.R.E. recalls about his first VIBE interview in 1997. “We wanted Sacha Jenkins to have this experience like N.W.A.”

Back when partners in rhyme, Capone-N-Noreaga, were fresh on the music scene with their debut album, The War Report — they wanted to make sure the former VIBE editor got the full “thugged out” experience.

By this point, the West Coast rap scene had already scared the sh*t out of America with albums like Straight Outta Compton. And as avid fans of those same gangsta rap jams, these New York natives were determined to make sure the world also knew Queens (Queensbridge & Lefrak) weren’t no suckas.

To ensure the wildest article would be written about them, CNN now admits they played up the gangsta image to the T. For the interview, they invited Sacha to Capone’s crib in Queensbridge projects where they had plenty of firepower and white powder on deck. But as you’ll hear in the interview below — it wasn’t cocaine. In fact, things almost took a turn for the worse when one of the guns was misfired.
