New York really doesn’t have one specific rap style anymore. However, Harlem’s Dave East reminds one of that gritty Rotten Apple hip-hop sound that dominated the industry during the mid ’90s. East’s style doesn’t come off as a facsimile, though, it’s fully organic.

With potent street scriptures of crack-heads, grimy hustlers, card swiping and shooters, you’d think you were walking down the same East Harlem blocks he calls home.
