Drake Isn’t Just Drake In His ‘Energy’ Video
Drake treats his new video for “Energy” like Twitter, playing 140 characters in these streets.
With his OVO woes in tow, the rapper born Aubrey Graham employs CGI and pounds of make-up to become some of pop culture’s most notorious from Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber to Kanye West and President Barack Obama. Drake also plays dress up as Floyd Mayweather, Toronto mayor Rob Ford and O.J. Simpson.
Drizzy says he grabbed inspiration from Michael Jackson’s video “Black Or White” for the visual treatment of the Boi-1da and OB O’Brien-produced cut from his ode to the 6, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
“I think it’s one of those moments where I really hit the nail on the head at that given moment,” Drake told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. “This treatment is something that I’ve had in my head for a while.”
He continues, “I was like, ‘Man, you know, effects have come such a long way. I bet we could do something crazy with this.’ And how many people in the world feel like they have enemies? Everywhere you go, there’s always someone who wants to pull you down and even celerity friends of mine or people that I don’t know. I want people to rewind it a bunch of times and go and tell someone else to watch it. It’s shocking, it’s beautiful, it’s a lot of things.”
