Sister, Sister: French-Cuban Duo Reinterpret Jay Electronica Song In “Exhibit Diaz”
Ibeyi, a pair of twins raised between Paris and Cuba, earlier this year dropped their eponymous debut album featuring a mezcla of hip-hop elements, electronic sounds and traditional Yorùbán rhythms. Lisa-Kaindé Diaz (lead voice) and Naomi Díaz (percussions) cite musical influences Frank Ocean, James Blake, King Krule and their famous Cuban percussionist father, Anga Díaz.
The Diaz sisters enraptured SXSW festival goers with songs about family tragedy and filled with kindred spirit. Today, they release a new song off their Ibeyi LP called, “Exhibit Diaz.” The track showcases the duo’s blending of hip-hop and more traditional/electronic sounds, and serves as a reinterpretation of Jay Electronica’s “Better In Tune With The Infinite.”
