Taylor Swift Says Jay Z Is The Reason She Reconciled With Kanye West
Talk about friends in high places.
The world may never forget the hatchet that sprung up between Taylor Swift and Kanye West after he crashed the country-pop star's stage in 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards.
But thanks to Jay Z, the two have buried it. In her new Vanity Fair interview, T. Swift talked about her newly-relaxed approach to dating and a few friendships she's picked up in Hollywood thus far in her career. She noted that her friendship with Jay led to the reconciliation with Mr. West. The "Bad Blood" singer told the magazine that she felt the relationship between the two of them was void of respect, and the first step to a friendship was establishing that.
“I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me—so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time,” Swift said in the interview. She added that she even felt the friendship was important for Jay Z, and eventually, they were able to hold friendly conversations with one another about commonplace topics. She also dished on the importance of strong female friendships for the cover story, explaining that she prioritizes a "sisterhood" above the need for intimate relationships with men.
“When you’ve got this group of girls who need each other as much as we need each other, in this climate, when it’s so hard for women to be understood and portrayed the right way in the media.... now more than ever we need to be good and kind to each other and not judge each other," she added.
Ironically, though, Swift recently fell under 140-character fire for misplacing herself and the commentary of Nicki's adamant and crucial objection to the 2015 VMA nominations. The incident grabbed headlines after Swift pulled a Kanye and interrupted Nicki's important social media commentary. She later apologized to Nicki for stepping out of her lane and the two made up.
