Alessia Cara's “Scars To Your Beautiful” Is A Self-Love Anthem For Girls Everywhere
Alessia Cara reminds women (and men) to love themselves as they are.
Rising R&B and pop star Alessia Cara made her Las Vegas on Saturday (Sept. 26) at this year’s Life Is Beautiful Festival with a live rendition of her Four Pink Walls EP. Moving about the stage with equal parts swagger and grace, the 19-year-old singer shared her mini-project at the Ambassador Stage. In addition to her praise-garnering five-track release, Alessia Cara also offered a new track from her forthcoming debut album, entitled “Scars To Your Beautiful.” Introducing the song as an empowering self-love anthem for young women (that she hopes boys can relate to as well), the talented newcomer offered words of wisdom beyond her years.
“The standards that we have to kind of face as young women in everyday life just to feel, or look a certain way, or act a certain way, because there’s a lot of pressure being a young girl, and just girls and women in general,” she said before performing the track. “So I wanted to make a reminder to just love yourself and appreciate yourself no matter what.”
A narrative about a girl yearning to meet standards of beauty, Alessia sang of relatable subjects such as insecurity, masked emotions and eating disorders. The hook of the song offers hope, reminding listeners that “You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are/ And you don’t have to change, the world could change its heart.” She also led an encouraging call-and-response: “No better you than the you that you are.”
