In A Few Holiday Seasons, Expect To See A Very Unmerry Ice Cube In 'Humbug'
After loaning the spotlight to his son in the critically-acclaimed summer flick Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube will make his return back to the big screen for the holidays. According to Deadline, the actor and N.W.A. figurehead has been tapped as the main prospect to play the miserable Christmas legend Ebenezer Scrooge in the modern-day version of Charles Dickens’ tale A Christmas Carol, aptly titled Humbug.
Set to be directed by Tim Story, who teamed up with Cube for Ride Along and Ride Along 2, the film will have Ice Cube playing a wealthy but grouchy real estate mogul who takes a trip down memory lane with the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. The duo will be noted as the producers of the holiday classic, with the help of Jeff Kwatinetz, Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones, as Cube seeks to keep the box office success of his biopic Straight Outta Compton in full swing for his upcoming projects.
After winning the six-figure script deal over big names Disney, MGM and New Line, the Universal Pictures movie will reportedly be slated for a 2017 release, so it may be quite some time before you’ll get to see Ice Cube channel his inner Scrooge. Nevertheless, we’re sure that he’ll deliver like no other has before when it comes to this role.
