Kenan And Kel Reunite For An Epic 'Good Burger' Skit On 'Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'
Nickelodeon's favorite pair, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, reunited for a blast from the past skit on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (Sept. 23). The duo, who starred in their self-entitled show from 1996-2000, channeled their classic 1997 film Good Burger for a seven minute long scene that included Fallon.
The late night talk show host, who said his first job was at a local fast food restaurant, played an unskilled, dimwitted server alongside Mitchell who did the same behind the counter of the "Good Burger."
The pair took orders which they quickly messed up (Mitchell rapped a hot 16 when a customer, Black Thought of The Roots, requested a spicy chicken wrap), before construction worker Lester Oaks (Thompson) walked in and received the same lackluster service from the two waiters.
Thompson and Mitchell's onscreen reunion had been a long time coming as Mitchell was vocal about he and Thompson's strained relationship. In a 2012 interview with TMZ, Mitchell said, "The truth is Kenan does not want to be seen with me in any form of media, or even have my name mentioned around him." Despite this, Mitchell still had love for his former friend. "There is no bad blood on my side. I have not been upset about this. I respect his choice of wanting to make a name for himself solo," he said.
Fans of the duo have producer Dan Schneider to thank for their reunion. Reportedly, he asked both Mitchell and Thompson if they would be willing to recreate their movie for Fallon's show and both agreed. In the years since Kenan and Kel was in production, Thompson has gone on to star as a series regular on Saturday Night Live.
Mitchell is currently working with Schneider (and Kenan & Kel producer) on a new Nickelodeon series entitled Game Shakers. Check out their nostalgic reunion above.
