Premiere: Son Little Invites His Better Half To ‘Lay Down’

You might want to get familiar with singer/songwriter, Son Little. While his name may not ring a bell to some yet, the Los Angeles born–New York/Philly-raised musician has been making a name for himself with his calm, chill yet sensual and mature love ballads. This grind has garnered the budding crooner relationships with the likes of The Roots and legend Mavis Staples, among others.

On his latest offering, Son Little delivers a relaxing track, “Lay Down,” over hypnotic guitar strings and piano riffs, which comes just in time for cuddling season this winter or “cuffing season,” if you will:

“I wrote this song lying in bed with my lady, listening to the tea kettle whistle,” Son Little says. “I think about how complicated our lives are, all the ones and zeros distract us from what we really need and want. Sometimes I just want to take your love and hide.”

In the accompanied Kevin Clark-directed visual for “Lay Down” down below, Son and his wifey de-stress in a serene southern setting of open fields, dirt roads and an old-fashioned, country-styled home.

It’s more than likely that Son Little will cross your radar soon. He’s toured with heavyweights like Mumford and Sons and Kelis and produced Mavis Staples latest EP, Your Good Fortune.

“Lay Down” comes from Little’s forthcoming project, Anti-Debut Album, out Oct. 16.
