VSessions Presents: Andra Day Live From The VIBE Offices
When it comes to being in the know on raw new talent, don't be the last one to hop onboard the Andra Day train. To the virgin ear, the West Coast-bred songstress takes you across the pond with her strong, stirring vocals, triggering remnants of Amy Winehouse as she sings.
It's deeper than just the tone of voice, though. Her songs dig deep inside herself, serving as moments of self-exploration and self-accountability when it comes to her life experiences. Such is the case for two songs off her Cheers To The Fall album, "Gold" and "Forever Mine." On a warm summer day, the blooming singer came to the VIBE offices in Manhattan to serenade our staff with those two selections and explain the stories behind them.
"The album is a lot about not being seized up by fear," she said of what the album means to her. "For me, telling the truth is one of those things. I always think how people can jump out of airplanes and climb mountains, but being vulnerable and telling the whole truth while allowing yourself to be judged or criticized is one of the scariest things to do."
Open your ears to her beautiful music right here, and if you missed our last VSessions sit-down with London songbird Lianne La Havas, bless yourself here.
