Steady Winning: Venus Williams Earned Her Business Degree
All those Williams sisters do is win.
While her young sister Serena is racking up Grand Slam titles left and right, preparing to make make history at the U.S. Open and slaying magazine spreads, Venus Williams just scored a collegiate win. The former No. 1 women’s tennis player earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Indiana University East, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Venus enrolled in the university’s online degree program back in 2011, and earned her degree this summer. Receiving her diploma on Aug. 14, this is the second degree the tennis phenom has earned while doubling as a professional athlete; she earned her associate degree in fashion design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale back in 2007. She noted that her latest studies have helped her to better conduct her numerous business, including her EleVen clothing line.
“I’ve learned so much,” Venus said according to an IU East press release. “It was always my dream to have a business degree, and I ended up going to art school so many times, but in the back of my head I felt like I needed the tools to be a better leader, to be a better planner, to be better at all of the things I wanted to do in my businesses because I’m so hands-on.”
Venus is the first tennis player to earn a degree under an agreement established between Indiana University East and the Women’s Tennis Benefits Association that allows players to complete online programs. She reportedly collected her diploma while on her way to compete in the Western Southern Open. Like a boss.
Congratulations to Venus Williams.
