Machine Gun Kelly Says His 2012 Tweet About Eminem’s Daughter Still Affects His Career
A tweet from 2012 will live in infamy for Machine Gun Kelly.
Taking to the social network to offer a compliment to Eminem’s daughter – albeit not very P.C. – the Cleveland rapper received backlash for referring to Hailie Scott-Mathers as “hot as f**k.” At the time of the tweet, MGK was 21 years old, and Mathers was 16. In an interview with Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning, Machine Gun Kelly noted that the single 140-character comment still has effects on his career.
“At the time, I didn’t think that that was a thing. I’ll tell you this situation, ‘cause this is something that I feel like – quiet as it’s kept – is the reason why certain things [don’t happen]. Pictures of [Hailie] had came out, and I’m like, what, 20 years old, 21 at the time? I said ‘She’s beautiful, but all respect due. Eminem is king. What’s wrong with that? Is there a 15-year age gap where I’m a creep for that? I was 21, dawg. Certain people took it, and ran with it and hyped it up. […] Certain people won’t even listen or review [my album]. Certain places, you won’t even hear Machine Gun Kelly on. Certain things won’t even happen. Look, a friend of mine said it best yesterday. They said ‘Why do you care? You came into the industry blackballed. You already came in with everyone hating you.’ So I’m not stressing it man, ‘cause I’m not wrong.”
Visibly exasperated, the Cleveland rapper took his frustration on the matter in stride. He asked host Laura Stylez what prompted her to ask about the incident, and she revealed a rumor about Machine Gun Kelly being banned from Sirius XM, namely Eminem’s Shade 45 channel.
“I remember hearing that you were banned from Sirius XM, and I was always trying to figure out why you were banned from Sirius XM,” she said. “Or maybe specifically just Shade 45, which is Eminem’s channel. I hear somebody mention it, so I was just curious.”
Machine Gun Kelly also discussed his quiet split from Amber Rose, bring punk rock performance aspects to hip-hop, and his new album, General Admission. Watch the full Ebro In The Morning interview below (the discussion about Eminem’s daughter begins at the 34:49 mark).
