Taraji P. Henson Reveals The First Family Are Fans Of ‘Empire’

During a Tuesday (Oct. 13) visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Taraji P. Henson recalled a phone conversation she had with Empire’s executive producer Lee Daniels after the State Dinner, where he said he met the Obamas, and the First Lady discussed how much she is cuckoo for Cookie.

“’Where is Taraji P. Henson? I want to see her, you have no idea how much I love Cookie,’” Michelle Obama apparently said to Daniels. “I dropped the phone,” said Henson, who noted that she was invited to come to the event but had to skip out because of work.

President Barack Obama also apparently told Daniels that “he would never call Lucious, he would call me [Cookie]!” referring to an episode from the first season in which the Lyon family patriarch calls the leader of the free world.

Henson wasn’t the only one who was rightfully shocked. Kimmel said he was surprised to know that Mrs. Obama liked her character so much because she’s a big proponent of “kale and healthy things.”

“I play a very healthy Cookie, she’s good for the soul,” Henson giggled.
