Becky G Is Cast As The New Yellow Power Ranger
A Latina mighty morphin power ranger? Yep.
Becky G, 18, has emerged into a fierce entertainer. From her out-of-this-world dance moves to her scintillating verses to her stellar acting chops, it seems like there's nothing the Chicana can’t do. The rapper, singer-turned-actress has made in impact on the masses as Valentina Galindo in Season 2 of Fox’s hit series Empire, and equally impressed Hollywood film director Dean Israelite. Becky has been hand-picked to live out the role of the yellow ranger in the new Power Rangers movie.
The forthcoming film is set to premiere on January 13, 2017, which is a re-boot of the original 1990s TV series. "The action movie will follow a group of teenagers who must harness their unique superpowers and use those powers as a color-coordinated team in order to save the world," states The Hollywood Reporter.
Becky joins the ranks of Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), and newbie Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger). The announcement was made on the flick's official Instagram account featuring a pic of Becky G. She also took to Twitter to share the big news. "My favorite color is yellow. It's like it was meant to be," she tweeted.
