John Leguizamo Is Boycotting ‘SNL’

Actor John Leguizamo is refusing to watch NBC’s Saturday Night Live over presidential candidate Donald Trump. Since the network opted not to drop Trump as the show’s host, the Colombian comedian will no longer support the sketch comedy show.

“I’m all for freedom of speech, don’t get me wrong. I believe in freedom of speech. This is different. This is celebrating somebody,” said Leguizamo during an interview on Yahoo News Live. “He’s not doing it politically. He’s not on ’60 Minutes’ where they’re asking him real questions.”

This isn’t the first time SNL has been under fire. The show has faced criticism for years for not including a woman African-American cast member. The show has also been called out for misrepresenting Latinos, since their only true cast member Horatio Sanz left the show in 2006. Leguizamo also suggested that SNL wouldn’t have extended the invitation had the business tycoon offended another demographic.

“If he had said those things about any other ethnic group he would not be on that SNL,” he said. “I mean I find SNL to do that and NBC. I find it really insulting. I find it hurtful and insulting and you’re celebrating somebody who has said some horrible things. I find it unacceptable. I will not watch … I won’t watch SNL anymore.”
