Marco Rubio Wants To End Protection For DREAMers
Marco Rubio has switched his stance on immigration reform.
The son of Cuban immigrants who came to America for a better life wants to bar new immigrants from doing the same. In a feeble attempt to woo his constituents, Sen. Marco Rubio stated that as President he would end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.
“It will have to end at some point,” Rubio told reporters after an event at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. "It cannot be the permanent policy of the United States."
Rubio's actions would take away the ability to work legally in the U.S. from tens of thousands of Dreamers, with or without immigration reform. His statements are somewhat different from his previous stance on DACA only two years ago when he said that he would continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program until immigration reform passed through Congress.
Since Congress has yet to pass a legitimate bill regarding immigration reform, it seems like Rubio has jumped ship and caved into the pressure of getting rid of the plan altogether. The move would also appease his fellow conservatives, who have been critical of his stance on immigration since he helped craft a comprehensive immigration reform bill back in 2013.
Watch Marco Rubio basically tarnish his image to Dreamers everywhere:
