Is Missy Elliott Coming For Miley Cyrus In Her New Single? The ‘Net Thinks So
When Missy Elliot started flipping it and reversing in her comeback music video, “WTF (Where They From)”, it was clear the rapper was back in the game. And while some are still rejoicing Missy Misdemeanor’s return, others are raising questions about her new single’s subject. Focusing attention away from her dance moves and more on her lyrics, people are starting to get the idea her comeback single was taking shots at Miley Cyrus.
It’s hard to think that Missy has Miley on the brain, being that the two haven’t even done a track or project together. In fact, at the moment the only thing they seem to share is getting creative wisdom from producer Pharrell Williams. But after reading through the verses, there’s some lyrics that conveniently fit Cyrus’s profile.
For starters, the opening line of “WTF” is “the dance you doing is dumb.” Based on Miley’s endless history of twerking and grinding on a foam finger during her performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Music Video Awards, most people think Missy is calling her out.
Missy continues, “sticking out your tongue girl, but you know you’re too young,” potentially taking shots at Miley’s signature facial expression. Miley has received a lot of backlash from other rappers like Nicki Minaj for her insensitivity and appropriation towards black culture. It’s hard to say exactly where Missy was going with this but her next lines kind of signal toward the previous sentiment. She says, “a bunch of girls do it and the s**t looks fun, that’s how they do it where we from.”
For now, it’s all just speculation. Missy Elliott has yet to comment on her questionable lyrics, and most people are still just enjoying the fact that she’s back. But some still want to know, “Miley, what’s good?”
