Dominican Mayor Shot Dead Hours After Seeing His Kids At School
Mayor Juan de los Santos, the serving mayor of East Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, was shot and killed in his office Tuesday (Dec. 15). According to Latin Times, the alleged assailant Luis Féliz, 44, had waited all morning outside de los Santos’ office at the Federación Dominicana de Municipios to confront him about their legal battle.
Féliz eventually broke into the office during a business meeting and shot de los Santos, 45, in the head and chest, killing him instantly. Féliz also shot security guard Archi de Jesús Medina, 34, who also died at the scene. The culprit then turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

Before his political career, de los Santos was widely known as “Juancito Sport,” which served as the name of his famous sports betting franchise in the Dominican Republic. After stepping into the realm of politics, de los Santos ran for office in 2002 and served as a member of Congress until he ran and won the mayoral election of East Santo Domingo in 2006. After being reelected in 2010, his second term in office would’ve ended in 2016.
The late Mayor, who prior to his demise had just came from a school Christmas celebration with his two younger sons, leaves behind his wife and five children.
