Some Folks Think A Horse Should Have Won Over Serena Williams For "Sportsman Of The Year"

Cue the blank stares.

It just wouldn't be a regular day if people didn't have something negative to say. And of course, today (Dec. 14), that negativity is surrounding Sport Illustrated's latest announcement. The publication recently named Serena Williams the Sportsman of the Year, and although most would say the champion was rightfully crowned, some conservatives think that the title doesn't belong to the 53-time winning champion, but rather a racing horse. Cue the blank stares.

In case you weren't reading correctly, yes, Serena Williams was compared, not a horse racer (a person), but an animal. The racing horse, American Pharaoh, might be triple-winning champion, but that hardly matches Williams reigning career. The horse did win an online poll contest in which the animal ran against the tennis player, but SI chose to honor Williams instead.

“She was the most deserving person for the award. She had an amazing year. The way she won her events; the fact that she’s done this for so many years at such a high level,” said Paul Fichtenbaum, editor of the Sports Illustrated Group to USA Today.  "She was a terrific candidate in a year of terrific candidates."

Many made comments surrounding the publication's negligence for honoring animals. But where there is negativity, there is also racism. Opposers  had a problem with the cover shoot, which depicted the athletes lounging on the throne with a crown on her head. Some commented on the "rap-like" nature of the shoot while other's suggested that Serena earned her title just because she is African-American. In perhaps the most shameless response, The Los Angeles Times posted the following poll:

Take a look at some of the comments that ignited the Internet into the senseless ongoing battle. And once again, congratulations to Serena Williams on being named Sportsman of the Year.

Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" Is No Longer The Number One Song In America

Lil Nas X's bonafide smash "Old Town Road" has been dethroned from its unprecedented 19-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

According to the publication, rising alt-pop star Billie Eilish now has the No. 1 song in the country with her track "Bad Guy." The song has been sitting at No. 2 for nine weeks straight. Lil Nas X, who collaborated with the likes of Billy Ray Cyrus, Young Thug, Mason Ramsey and more superstars for various remixes of the song, congratulated the 17-year-old on her first No. 1 hit via Twitter.

"Old Town Road" now holds the No. 3 spot behind  Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "Señorita."

The Atlanta musician catapulted to fame after "Old Town Road" made the rounds. Initially, it was removed from Billboard's Country chart for reportedly not implementing enough elements of the genre. Since then, it has shattered records and expectations.

Just a few weeks ago, it became the longest-running No. 1 in American music history, breaking a record held by Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber (for "One Sweet Day" and "Despacito," respectively).

Lil Nas X has a lot to be proud of. Congrats on a historic run.

congratulations to billie eilish!! u deserve this!!

Actress Who Made 'For Your Consideration' Billboard For Tyler Perry Is Cast In His Show

While Tyler Perry wasn’t all that jazzed about the fact that an actress purchased a billboard begging him to cast her in one of his shows, the stunt appeared to have worked.

According to TMZ, Racquel Bailey reportedly landed a role on Perry’s new television project, a BET show titled Sistas. The site reads that Bailey will be in the Season One finale, and will possibly be in Season Two.

“…Bailey plays a police officer who had a past relationship with one of the lead characters. Perry was on set directing the episode in which Bailey will appear,” the site continues. Bailey also reportedly received a few calls outside of Mr. Perry, leading to about 20 auditions and two roles (not including Sistas).

“This is not the way to get my attention if you’re looking for a role in one of my shows,” wrote Perry on Instagram back in June accompanying a photo of Bailey’s billboard. “This is the third time that someone has done this. PLEASE STOP! To audition is FREE!! I’m sure you can use that money for a better purpose. I love that you want to work with me, and I love that you invest in yourself. But when you do things like this it puts my team on high alert and makes me look at you sideways. I know the message that you want to send is a positive one, but this comes across as the opposite.”
