It wouldn't be a day in music and entertainment if Iggy Azalea wasn't getting slandered. And today's public response comes courtesy of Macklemore. Alongside musical partner Ryan Lewis, Macklemore dropped their latest racially motivated single, "White Privilege II," touching on racism and appropriation of black culture. The single, which took a direct stab at Iggy, caused the Aussie native to once again defend herself on Twitter.
More specifically, in its message, "White Privilege II" discusses what it's like being white during a time of racial crisis as well as discussing his own impact and success because of his race. His rhymes then touch on other artists who have often been criticized for appropriating black culture, music, and fashion. “You’ve exploited and stolen the music, the moment, the magic, the passion the fashion, you toy with/The culture was never yours to make better/You’re Miley, you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea.”
Iggy, being no stranger to criticism, jumped on the social media account to defend her name, saying, "he shouldn’t have spent the last 3 yrs having friendly convos and taking pictures together at events etc if those were his feelings." She goes on to share her thoughts with a fan, saying that she doesn't care about Macklemore's line and that "people are going to like whoever they want so, let them."
It's most likely that Iggy won't have the last word on this one. But as we wait for Macklemore's response, check out the track that ignited the flame and Iggy's response to "White Privilege II" below.
