“I didn’t think I’d live to see a black president,” McLaurin said.

It took some time, but two years later at the age of 106, McLaurin finally got her wish and was invited to The White House for it’s month long Black History Month celebration. McLaurin could hardly contain herself when she met President Obama and The First Lady, even dancing into the arms of both of them as they greeted and took a photo.

McLaurin was born in 1910 when William Howard Taft was president. She was married at 14 and then widowed at 17 and throughout her life worked as a housekeeper, a nanny, and a seamstress. The spunky and vivacious centenarian has lived through 18 American presidents, two World Wars and advises everyone to live the best life they can.
