George Lopez Returns To American Television With White Man Problems

Some nine years after the unprecedented sitcom George Lopez was taken off the airwaves, the eponymous comedian George Lopez is back with a semi-autobiographical, 12-episode series centered on the conundrum of being both a person of color and status in mainstream television. In other words, the OG is too high up in the echelons to return to his working-class Latino roots, yet too brown to get fully acclimated to his wealthy celebrity life.

In contrast to his former work, Lopez is a single-camera comedy that promises to reveal the iconic comedian in a “hilarious, yet brutally honest way.” “I’m excited that TV Land realizes that my personal challenges, insecurities and inability to connect are all part of my charm,” said Lopez ahead of the show’s March 30 premiere.
