Sadly, Kanye West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ Will Not Make The Billboard Charts

Music News

Likely due to the exclusivity of Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo to TIDAL, the outspoken rapper’s seventh studio album will not make the Billboard album charts this week. There’s also a strong chance that the opus will not ever chart, because as West wrote on Twitter, he will not be selling the album in stores; it will only be on the streaming site.

This hasn’t stopped pirates from extracting the album from TIDAL for public consumption. TLOP has been illegally downloaded over 500,000 times since its official release on Feb. 14. Billboard’s President Silvio Pietroluongo explained why the album wasn’t included in the end of the week album chart.

“Billboard has been informed that TIDAL is not currently reporting streams for tracks on Kanye’s album to Nielsen Music,” he explained. “Therefore streams from TIDAL for this title will not contribute to Billboard’s chart rankings at this time.” Billboard would not have any other data to work with the see how many units TLOP has sold since it’s solely on TIDAL.

Kanye himself is still not changing his tune when it comes to how his album is heard. In a moment captured for Instagram, while signing autographs, Yeezy continued to sing TIDAL’s praises.

“I would prefer if everyone would sign up to Tidal…to get the album on TIDAL. That’s what I prefer.” He can be heard saying. Much to his chagrin, a voice heard in the background says that “nobody likes Tidal,” to which West retorts, “You’re a hater. There’s a lot of people who like TIDAL. What do you mean? You guys like it.”
