Lil Uzi Vert On What Made His Career Take Off : "I Just Stopped Thinking"
"It's weird, [but] I just stopped thinking and started moving," says Philly's Lil Uzi Vert about when the wheels started to turn in his rap career. "I just stopped thinking so hard." Though, he's still a fresh face to the masses, Atlantic Records has already scooped up the green haired artist.
Coming off a well received solo mixtape Luv is Rage, the young spitta impressed critics with a rapid fire flow reminiscent of another Philly hustler, Peedi Crakk. Along the way, the hungry rapper also forged valuable friendships with the likes of A$AP Mob and Young Thug. He says he has a collaborative project with Thugger in the stash for release later this year.
After DJ Don Cannon passed the word to DJ Drama about the "next big thing" coming out of North Philly, the Philadelphia-to-Atlanta tastemaker was blown away by the star power in Lil Uzi.
"Some guy was just like 'you rap fast, man. Like a little machine gun' and from that moment I was Lil Uzi," says Vert about how he came up with his odd-sounding rap name. To this day, the anonymous friend that gave Uzi his moniker has no idea that he named him.
