Kanye West's opening track "Ultralight Beam" on The Life Of Pablo begins the widely-popular album off on a praise-worthy note. With features from Kelly Price, The-Dream, and Kirk Franklin, listeners promptly receive their anointing within five minutes and twenty-seconds. But out of all the artists listed, there's one that's a fan favorite amongst listeners.
Before Franklin's stirring prayer, Chance The Rapper lyrically anoints you with his witty and hard-hitting wordplay. Taking his rhymes into the real world, the Chicagoan performed his verse during a show in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday night (Mar. 29), and it's safe to say from the looks of the video that concert attendees left with a renewed sense of life.
On the creation of "Ultralight Beam" powerhouse singer Kelly Price shared with The Fader that Chance's verse wasn't on the melody when she received track.
"I knew the song was called 'Ultralight Beam' and I did hear some of the things that Kanye was doing. But other than that, Derek just sent me the track and said, 'I want you to write what you feel,'" she said. "We did have a spiritual connection in putting this song together, because for me to not know what Chance was going to be talking about and to write the way I wrote not having heard anything that he was going to say --- it was like we were together and had a conversation about what we were going to say. But that didn't happen."
