Jay Z Inspired Nick Jonas To Name New Album 'Last Year Was Complicated,' Because Why Not
Nick Jonas dropped the news of his new project, Last Year Was Complicated via Twitter this week but left out the special reason for the definitive title.
Billboard reports the singer-actor aficionado shared Thursday that
his best friend Jay Z casually helped him with the title of his project during an event in November 2015. While discussing the album with the rapper, he explained his recent breakup brought about songs like "Champagne Problems" and the Tove-Lo assisted single "Close" for the project. "Last year was complicated," Jonas told Jay, who suggested the singer had come across his album title and what Jay says, apparently goes.
It's no surprise Jay likes to help artists in their creative process. After all, he was the one who suggested all the "e's" on the Rihanna-Future 2012 single, "Loveeeeeee Song.”
In an odd way, heartbreak has given Jonas a strong album title and telling first single. "Close" and the hot/sweaty visuals sat nicely at No.1 on the Billboard & Twitter Trending 140 chart the same day of its release.
Last Year Was Complicated will be released June 10 and is currently available for pre-sale here.
