There’s An Online Petition To Have A Queens Park Renamed In Honor Of Phife Dawg

Even in his absence, the legacy and impact of Phife Dawg is as strong as ever. According to MissInfo, A Tribe Called Quest member Jarobi White is pushing the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to have St. Albans Park in Queens renamed to reflect the moniker of the Tribe rapper (real name Malik Taylor).

“Malik Taylor was a local resident of New York,” the petition reads. According to the petition, St. Albans Park is one of the places that the Tribe would go to freestyle when they were young. The goal of the petition is to get 1,000 supporters, and as of press time, the petition to change the name has 595 supporters.

“[Phife] has left a positive affect on many lives today. St. Albans Park nurtured and entertained the spirit of “Phife Dawg”. Therefore, it is believed that an honor should be bestowed on Malik Taylor and St. Albans Park. In renaming St. Albans Park into Malik Taylor Park.”

We will see if the petition has a big enough impact to order a change in the name of the park.
