#FeelTheBern: Bernie Sanders And Jhene Aiko Visit The Apollo Theater
New York is #feelingthebern.
Continuing his ‘New York takeover,’ Sen. Bernie Sanders visited the Apollo Theater Saturday (April 9) to have a “community conversation,” alongside prominent voices and activists in the community.
The discussion began after the Democratic presidential candidate introduced his panelists, which included actor and activist Harry Belafonte, Erica Garner daughter of Eric Garner, and former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner. While the panelists took the time to share their views on major issues, they also managed to express their praises for Sanders’ presidential plans. The Vermont Senator commanded the mic to talk about his economic initiative, police brutality, and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Following the discussion, Sanders also introduced his musical guest for the event, Jhene Aiko. The Flower Child took to the Apollo stage to perform a three-song set. Under a dimly lit stage, Jhene performed acoustic versions of “Space Jam,” “W.A.Y.S.,” and “Eternal Sunshine,” with accompanied of a piano.
Jhene Aiko is one of the many artists to publicize their support for Sanders, along with Mac Miller, Big Boi, T.I. and Kendrick Lamar. Check out some of what Sen. Bernie Sanders, Harry Belafonte, Nina Turner, Eriac Garner had to say during the community conversation and Jhene Aiko’s performance below.
