A Petition Was Launched To Help Brandy Dissolve Her Recording Contract
Late last month, reports surfaced that famed R&B singer Brandy was seeking to end her contract with Chameleon Entertainment.
The Broadway actress claimed that the label “will not pay for her to record new albums or allow her to otherwise release music to her fans,” and as a result of the constraint, the “Full Moon” songstress requested $1 million in compensatory damages.
With the case now being handled by a superior court, her day one fans took matters into their own hands to showcase their undying support for the Cali native during this time. A petition on Change.org was created calling for the aforementioned record label to “Free Brandy.”
The description on the website details the reason behind Brandy’s suit, which states that she’s bound by a “bully” clause listed within her contract.
“Brandy filed suit against Prescott and Chameleon Entertainment Tuesday, March 29, 2016 for $1M exposing Prescott’s refusal to let her RECORD or RELEASE an album unless she signs with Epic Records,” the statement reads. “This ‘bully’ clause in the contract would allow Chameleon Entertainment to ‘double dip’ at her expense. The case is now in superior court.”
So far, 393 people have signed the petition, nearing the 500th mark needed to get it recognized by the higher-ups. Details on Brandy’s lawsuit are still forthcoming.
