‘Empire’s Bryshere Y. Gray Lands Role In New Edition’s Biopic
In August 2015, news surfaced that BET would serve as the home of New Edition’s forthcoming biopic. With production underway, fans are already waiting to circle a date for its premiere.
Now, as the reel is in its early stages, another cast member was just announced that’ll surely get you even more excited for the biopic. According to Entertainment Weekly, Empire star Bryshere Y. Gray, who’s best known for his role as the self-assured Hakeem Lyon on the FOX hit show, will assume the persona of Michael Bivins.
Gray will also join the likes of R&B crooner Luke James who’ll take on Johnny Gill’s personality, Keith Powers as Ronnie DeVoe, Elijah Kelley will play Ricky Bell, Algee Smith as Ralph Tresvant, plus Woody McClain as Bobby Brown.
EW also states that New Edition: The Movie will be carved into a miniseries. The three-part program will showcase NE’s beginnings as a middle school ensemble to their rise to R&B prominence in the ’80s. The network aims to launch the film next year.
