Initially, Bryant announced his retirement in November, but when the Spanish league heard he was interested in playing with Spaniard Pau Gasol in July, the club made an offer.

A report states that Bryant told the club officials that he would “love to finish his career playing for Barca with Pau Gasol.” Gasol was Bryant’s former teammate on the Lakers from 2007-2014, and played in the club’s youth leagues.

But the Black Mamba declined the effort because he feared he wouldn’t be able to stay healthy for a complete Euroleague season. Bryant’s last game will be on April 13, at home going against the Utah Jazz.
