Reports State Prince’s Body Was Cremated Ahead Of Memorial Service
On Thursday (Apr. 21), news stunned the world that pioneering musician Prince passed away at age 57. It’s still unclear as to what was the exact cause of death, particularly following headlines that the “1999” singer was treated for flu-like symptoms two weeks prior. Now, Entertainment Tonight reports that Prince was cremated after officials released his body to his family.
Although an autopsy report was completed, medical authorities announced that it’ll take days or weeks to determine the factors that were apparent in his passing. A memorial service was held at his Paisley Park estate on Saturday (Apr. 23), where images show his ashes ushered by his family members.
According to the New York Daily News, a family friend said on the memorial service that Prince “wanted it to be kept to the minimum of fuss. Prince was such a figure you don’t need a funeral to remember him by. He wanted to simply disappear with no fuss, no drama, no fanfare. It was just his style.”
Prince’s rep also issued a statement, Billboard reports. “A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye. Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private. We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time.”
Following the final autopsy, Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said they ruled no trauma or suicide attempt was apparent. “We have no reason to believe at this point that it’s a suicide, but it’s early on in the investigation.”
Details are still forthcoming as an investigation is still ongoing.
