Robert Glasper Brings Erykah Badu And Miles Davis Together On "Maiyisha (So Long)"
A wonderful pairing.
Robert Glasper, who has a knack for seamlessly blending jazz, hip-hop and R&B to create classics, has done it again with his newest hit, "Maiysha (So Long)" The simmering Erykah Badu assisted single is a remake of famed jazz musician Miles Davis' 1974 hit Get Up With It.
The single will appear on Glasper's forthcoming record Everthing's Beautiful, an album in which the Houston, TX native reworked snippets of Davis' work to create new recordings.
Tackling anything Miles Davis can either be career suicide or a respectfully done work of art paying homage to one of music's best. Glasper's 2012 Grammy nominated Black Radio catapulted the pianist, proving his musical intellect is superb, and ensuring whatever he touches will have a certain finesse to it.
Glasper surmises Davis would've enjoyed Badu's musical amalgamation of R&B, jazz and soul, which is why he believed the mash up was fitting. Take a listen to Maiysha below.
