#BlackGirlMagic: Ballerina Misty Copeland Is Honored With Her Own Barbie Doll
The American Ballet Theatre's principal dancer Misty Copeland is being honored by Mattel with a Barbie doll sharing her likeness, according to ABC News.
"I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on," Copeland revealed in a press release. "It's an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll."
She told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts that she worked very hard to create the doll.
"It's so significant," she revealed as they unveiled the doll for the first time. The doll is wearing Misty's Firebird costume, which is the principal role that made her a bonafide ballet phenom. "It's so extremely exciting... I was hands-on with making sure that she really looked like a dancer and looked like me!" Currently, Copeland is performing as Juliet in ABT's performance of "Romeo and Juliet."
The dolls are officially on sale, and is available online for $29.95. Check out her interview below.
