Troy Ave Arrested For Shooting At Irving Plaza, NYPD Releases Video

The Major Without A Deal rapper was charged with reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possessions.

Rapper Troy Ave, real name Roland Collins, was arrested Thursday (May 26) in connection with a shooting at New York's Irving Plaza the night before. The NYPD released footage from the evening, which shows a suspect opening fire backstage at the concert venue in which T.I. was slated to perform.

The 30-year-old Brownsville rapper--who accidentally shot himself in the leg during the chaos, and was later transported to NYU Langone Medical Center--was charged with reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possessions according to reports. Pending the results of a ballistics test, Troy Ave may also face a murder charge.

The shooting, which occurred at about 10:15 pm.Wednesday (May 25) left one man, Ronald McPhatter dead, and three--including Troy Ave--injured. According to Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, shots rang out inside the green room on the second floor of the concert venue when Maino finished performing. The gunfire turned into a stampede, with many knocking over bar stools as they tried to take cover or run for the exit.

The video shows the gunman barging into the green room sporting a gold chain and firing off several shots. City Councilman Jumaane Williams and others who know McPhatter said he entered the room after the gunman and then runs past the gunman as the shots ring off.

While investigators comb through surveillance footage and interview attendees, it's reported many in Troy Ave's camp aren't being cooperative.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, who earlier called some rap artists "basically thugs" during a radio interview, said the case was moving quickly and they hope to close it soon.
