BET Awards Prince Tribute Will Feature Sheila E, The Roots, D’Angelo And Janelle Monae
BET honors Prince at the 2016 BET Awards.
Prince Rogers Nelson is gone, but he will never be forgotten.
BET Networks announced they will be honoring Prince during the BET Awards on June 26. Sheila E., The Roots, D’Angelo, and Janelle Monae will be performing a live rendition of Prince's songs in remembrance of the singer.
This isn’t Prince’s first time being recognized by BET for his eclectic work as a musical innovator. He previously received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
Artists continue to pay tribute and show their love for Prince after he passed on April 21, due to an opioid overdose.
Beyonce began her current Formation tour in Miami with a segment paying homage to Prince. His most popular hit single, "Purple Rain," played throughout the Marlins Park Arena, as the audience lit their phones to the sky.
Madonna, Stevie Wonder, and QuestLove also took the stage at the Billboard Awards last month to pay tribute to the iconic singer. Debates circled the Internet after their performance, and BET gave it some constructive criticism, calling it weak and too short.
"Yeah, we saw that. Don’t worry. We got you," they said.
Madonna responded to BET on Instagram, saying, "Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to. Whatever your age, gender or skin color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!!!! I love Prince 4 ever."
Questlove had her back, and defended Madonna’s tribute on Twitter.
“Everybody wants and deserves a chance to say goodbye in their own way. There will be gazillion other tributes, let’s not get ugly with the Prince would and wouldn’t approve game.”
Black-ish stars, Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson, will be hosting the 2016 BET Awards for yet another year in the row. So be sure to tune in.
