John Boyega To Flex Action Chops In 'Pacific Rim' Sequel
The Nigerian-bred actor is stepping into the big leagues.
Fresh off the success of last year's blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it appears that breakout star John Boyega is experiencing the budding upstart of what could be a long-lasting career in Hollywood. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fresh-faced franchise player is slated to play the lead in the sequel to 2013's action juggernaut Pacific Rim. While details regarding the film's plot have been kept under lock and key, it's evident that the sequel will follow the events of the first film.
Boyega is set to play the son of Stacker Pentecost, the ill-fated commanding officer from the first film, as played by Idris Elba. The project is set to be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and produced by Guillermo del Toro, who also directed the first film. The Pacific Rim sequel is just one of a handful of projects Boyega has on his plate. Aside from Stars Wars: Episode VIII, the budding actor is set to star alongside Tom Hanks in an adaptation to the Dave Eggers novel The Circle.
