Less than 48 hours after Hamilton’s near record-setting sweep at this year’s Tony Awards, word has come that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s debut Broadway musical will grace the silver screen.

A pleasant throwback to Miranda’s pre-Hamilton days, In The Heights chronicles the lives of several characters in the New York City neighborhood of Washington Heights, which is known for its large Dominican population.

While an adaptation for the film was slated to be produced by Universal, it was eventually scrapped in 2011. However, in the wake of Hamilton’s success on Broadway, The Weinstein Co. quickly capitalized off Miranda’s burgeoning prominence and put a film adaptation of the actor/playwright’s breakout hit back into motion.
