Following Lin-Manuel, Leslie Odom Jr. Says Goodbye To ‘Hamilton’

Another lead actor is saying his goodbyes to the Hamilton stage. Leslie Odom Jr, who recently won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, has just announced his departure from the 11 Tony Award-winning musical on Facebook.

“I am indeed leaving on July 9. It has just been the most completely wonderful, totally healing, and inspiring experience from beginning to end,” said Odom. “I will never forget the people that I’ve met here. I’ll never forget all of you.” Odom did not share his future plans, but he did share his excitement for a blank page after his journey as Aaron Burr ends.

Fans everywhere have reacted to Odom’s exit, and let’s just say the breakup is real.

This news comes after Hamilton himself, Lin-Manual Miranda, announced his own departure from the show, July 9. His understudy Javier Muñoz will be taking the spotlight starting July 11.

“I kind of am getting to have the opportunity that I didn’t have on this show, which is to see the show and see how it works. So, I’m really looking forward to having that. I didn’t see Hamilton until the President came. He came to our sixth preview, and he saw Javier Muñoz play the role. It was the Sunday before our first preview that [producer] Jeffrey [Seller] called and said, ‘The White House is coming, and this is when they’re coming,’ and I go, ‘I’m not on that day,’ and they go, ‘Yeah, I know, but this is when the President is coming.’ I had a brief moment of… I performed for the President in 2009, and Javi is amazing, and I want to see my show. When Javi does the show, you really see the show in all of its colors. I can’t over stress it—we created the role together. In the rehearsal room, as I was writing, he would tag in, I would tag in. We would do every scene with me in the role and him in the role, and that’s how we kicked the tires on Hamilton. It really took two people to make it work.” – #LinManuelMiranda. On the upside, Miranda says the original cast will be filming the production for their fans, something Odom warns he might not be involved with. “As of right now, I am not a part of that film,” he said. “I’ll let you know if anything changes. I would love to be a part of it. There’s a small chance I won’t be, and if I’m not, I’m sure they’ll find somebody great.”
