Sheila E. Dedicates Upcoming Album To Prince
Sheila E. changed the direction of her album once she found out about Prince's death.
Prince's death shocked the world, but it hit his former lover Sheila E. in a major way. The singer/drummer was in the process of recording a dance album when she received the news about her ex-fiancé's death in April. Driven by a sense of loss, the singer began writing an entire album influenced by her relationship with the late, iconic singer.
"I decided to write a whole new album. And it feels right,” she said of the upcoming project titled Girl Meets Boy, her first since the 2013 debut of Sheila E.: Icon.
Sheila E. will also join Janelle Monae, Roots and D'Angelo in paying tribute to Prince at the BET Awards on June 26. "I wasn’t sure I could do it even though I said yes,” she told Billboard. "It’s actually been a part of my healing now, trying to figure out what I was going to play and what would be okay to make sure I would get through it. But it’s going to be fun."
