Ava DuVernay’s Prison Film ‘The 13th’ To Open At NY Film Festival
We’ve seen director Ava DuVernay tackle history in the critically-acclaimed film Selma. Seeking to expand her directing repertoire with an upcoming adaptation of the sci-fi classic A Wrinkle In Time, the director is generating conversation once again with her upcoming documentary The 13th.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DuVernay’s latest film is slated to open the 54th annual New York Film Festival this fall.
Not one to veer away from social issues, DuVernay’s documentary will broach the topic of mass incarceration in America, as well as how the United States produced the highest rate of incarceration in the world. The 54th annual New York Film Festival will run from Sept. 30 to Oct. 16.
