73 People Killed In Bastille Day Massacre
France officials say someone driving a tractor-trailer plowed through a crowd mowing bodies over, injuring at least 100 people and killing 73.
At least 100 people were injured and more than 70 people were killed in the latest terror attack to hit Nice, France.
According to reports, Thursday evening (July 14) someone driving a large truck accelerated and plowed through a crowd as many were celebrating Bastille Day. The driver was immediately shot and killed, but not before causing mass terror.
CNN reports the person driving the truck was a male and is believed there was no gunfire coming from the truck. Per local French news outlet BFMTV, anti-terror prosecutions have taken over the investigation.
Eyewitnesses tell CNN the truck didn't accidentally barrel into the crowd, but the driver intentionally tried to run people over as many celebrated France's national holiday. Wassim Bouhlel spoke with the Associated Press and described the gruesome scene afterwards. “There was carnage on the road,” Bouhel said. "Bodies everywhere.”
Upon learning of the latest terrorist attack to rock France, President Obama issued a statement reviling those responsible.
"We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack," the President said.
