Idris Elba To Make His Directorial Debut With 'Yardie'
As an all-around entertainer, Idris Elba has worn many hats over the course of his career: musician, voice actor, DJ and potential James Bond. Now the silver screen star can add director to his resume. According to Screen Daily, Elba is set to make his directorial debut with Yardie, an adaptation of Victor Headley's novel of the same name.
Working off a script from seasoned scribe Brock Norman Brock, Elba's directorial debut centers around a young Jamaican drug courier who steals a kilo of white powder and travels to the mean streets of London to continue his illegal activity. With this bit of news, Elba joins a long line of seasoned Hollywood actors that have cut their teeth in the director's chair.
Whether or not Elba will be able to translate his acting prowess into directorial magic remains to be seen. In the meantime, fans of the Luther star can see him in the upcoming blockbuster Star Trek Beyond out July 22 , as well as a film adaptation of the Stephen King series The Dark Tower in 2017.
