Jay Z Drops ‘Songs For Survival’ Playlist On Tidal
It’s been said self-care is the most important in times of emotional and psychological trauma. This week was no different. Music’s best and brightest have released songs that convey the human spirit and solidarity with the families of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and the five police officers who lost their lives in Dallas.
After releasing the powerful track “spiritual,” Jay Z has curated a special playlist on Tidal that highlights the beauty of justice and blackness alike.
The playlist called “songs for survival,” features tracks from James Brown (“Say It Loud- I’m Black And I’m Proud”), Kendrick Lamar (“Alright”), and Nina Simone (“Four Women”). The playlist takes you back in time and also reminds you of the voices that have continuously fought for equality and justice for all.
This weekend has brought peaceful protests in cites such as Atlanta and New York but showed turmoil in Baton Rouge, La., after the arrest of activist and former Baltimore mayoral candidate DeRay McKesson. Following a high demand from celebrities and donations to McKesson and other protestors arrested Saturday (July 9) evening, McKesson was seen leaving jail on Sunday afternoon. (July 10).
Take a breather and listen to the righteous playlist below.
